Guillermo del Toro's DARK UNIVERSE Script Turned into Warner Bros.
We've been hearing about Guillermo del Toro's Justice League Dark film project for years, and I'm happy to report that there is still movement on it! Del Toro has been very busy with his new horror film Crimson Peak and has started working on Pacific Rim 2, but according to Forbes the screenplay for Justice League Dark has been completed! They also report that, as of yesterday, it was turned into the studio to read over Thanksgiving weekend.
The movie is tentatively titled Dark Universe as previously reported, and it will be a movie that stands on its own, meaning that it will not be a part of the rest of the DC cinematic universe that is being set up by Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. So don't expect it to crossover with Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and others.
If the studio executives have a positive reaction to the script, then they will obviously take it to the next stage of development. If they don't, then it will probably just die. I really hope Del Toro gave them something that they can't say no to. Just because it wasn't announced in the studio superhero movie line-up doesn't mean it's not going to happen.
The story has been said to include characters such as Deadman, The Spectre, Swamp Thing, Constantine a.k.a. Hellblazer, Phantom Stranger, Zatanna, Zatara, and Sargon, as well as Etrigan the Demon.
