Guy Ritchie Loads Up the Cast for VIVA LA MADNESS With Vinnie Jones, Jason Isaacs, Camila Mendes, and More
Production is officially rolling in London on Viva La Madness, and Guy Ritchie is assembling another killer ensemble for his latest action-thriller, stacking the screen with familiar collaborators and some exciting new energy, all orbiting previously announced lead Jason Statham.
Deadline reports the confirmed cast includes Vinnie Jones, Jason Isaacs, Babs Olusanmokun, Camila Mendes, Ben Foster, Jonny Lee Miller, and Raúl Alejandro. Several of these actors are longtime collaborators who know exactly how to operate inside his fast-talking, hard-hitting crime playgrounds.
Viva La Madness is based on the novel of the same name by JJ Connolly, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ritchie. Plot details are being kept tightly locked up, but the project already comes with an interesting bit of literary history.
Connolly’s book serves as a sequel to his debut novel Layer Cake. That said, the film isn’t connected narratively and stands on its own as a completely original story. The original Layer Cake was adapted for the screen back in 2004 and directed by Matthew Vaughn in his feature debut.
For Jones, this marks his fifth collaboration with Ritchie, following Snatch, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Mean Machine, and the Netflix series The Gentlemen.
That history also overlaps with Statham, who co-starred with Jones in Mean Machine and helped define Ritchie’s early film identity. Olusanmokun is returning after appearing in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, while Miller recently worked with the director on The Covenant.
The film was developed by Statham through Punch Palace Productions alongside Thomas Benski for Lumina Studios. Black Bear will handle domestic distribution, while Amazon MGM Studios is set to release the film across most international territories.
With cameras rolling and this cast locked in, Viva La Madness seems like it could end up being classic Ritchie chaos with a fresh edge.
