Guy Ritchie To Cast Marwan Kenzari as Jafar in Disney's Live-Action ALADDIN
Turns out those rumors of Tom Hardy playing Jafar in the Guy Ritchie's live-action adaptatin of Disney's Aladdin were false. THR is reporting that Marwan Kenzari is in negotiations to play the main villainous role.
There's a good chance you aren't familiar with the actor, but he recently had a role The Mummy reboot, and he also co-stars in the upcoming film Murder on the Orient Express. It's hard to say if he's a good actor or not, but if he landed the role, then he obviously impressed the director of the film.
He will join the previously cast Will Smith, who is taking on the role of Genie, Mena Massoud who is playing the "street rat" Aladdin, and Naomi Scott is set to play princess Jasmine.
I'm sure you all remember the story of Aladdin and how Jafar, who is the vizier to the sultan of the city of Agrabah, wanted the genie for himself so that he could take power, marry Jasmine, and rule over the city.
Saturday Night Live comedian Nasim Pedrad also landed a role in the movie. She will play a new character named Mara. She is the handmaiden and friend to Jasmine, which is a comedic supporting role.
Ritchie is directing the film from a script by John August (Big Fish, Corpse Bride).
