Guy Ritchie Would Like To Direct ALADDIN 2 and He's Been Kicking Around Some Ideas
It seems like Disney is gearing up to move forward with Aladdin 2 as it was reported about a month ago that Will Smith might actually be reprising his role as Genie. Now, the director of the first film, Guy Ritchie, seems like he’s ready to jump back into that world and direct the sequel.
During a recent interview with Collider, the filmmaker was asked if he’d be interested in helming the film, and he said: "I'd very much like to.” He went on to talk about how fun it was for him to make the first movie, and said he’s also got ideas for the sequel:
"I can't tell you how much I enjoyed that experience. It was a great experience. That whole Disney thing, as you can imagine, is such a professional outfit. Just from that perspective, it was so much fun. I would very much like to, we'll wait and see. We have been kicking some ideas around for some time now, but it'd be great to do, it would be great to go back there."
Ritchie is a great filmmaker who knows how to make super-fun films, and it was quite a surprise when it was first announced that he was going to direct Aladdin for Disney, but it ended up being a great film! It’s one of the better live-action remakes from the studio.
When Disney does move forward with Aladdin 2, it would be a mistake not to bring Ritchie back to direct. It’s good to hear from the director that it was a good experience for him working for the Mouse House.
Ritchie's original live-action Aladdin starred Mena Massoud in the title role alongside Smith as the Genie and Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine. The movie made over $1 billion at the box office, so a sequel seems like a likely move from Disney.
