Gwyneth Paltrow Says She's Never Seen AVENGERS: ENDGAME and She Discusses the Future of Pepper Potts in the MCU

Academy Award-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow starred as MCU character Pepper Potts, assistant and eventual wife to Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), across the Iron Man films as well as the Avengers movies. Her last appearance as Potts was in the 2019 film, Avengers: Endgame, and though it was the biggest film of 2019, and the culmination of the first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Paltrow has never seen the movie.

In a recent conversation at the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia, the actress confessed:

"To be honest, I stopped watching them at some point. I've never seen Endgame. I can’t keep track of who’s what. But I probably should at some point."

Paltrow went on to admit that she only agreed to join the cast of Iron Man because of the initial "indie" feel of the then-unknown Iron Man franchise.

"The first film we did was very different from the rest because the studio didn’t think it was going to be a big hit. They hired Jon Favreau to direct who was great. And they hired Robert Downey Jr., who was un-hireable at the time. His career was at a very low point. We improvised almost every scene of that movie. We would write scenes in the morning in Jon’s trailer. It was like doing an independent film. Then the movie was such a huge hit that then we didn’t make them like that anymore."

The actress gave a recent statement via social media after she was asked why Pepper Potts had been absent from the recent Marvel movies, and she explained:

"We just stopped doing it because Iron Man died. And why do you need Pepper Potts without Iron Man?"

And though there has been some talk from fans about the rumored possibility of Iron Man’s return to the MCU one day, maybe through the use of the multi-verse, Marvel boss Kevin Feige made a recent statement debunking that theory. He explained that they would never want to “magically undo” the sacrifice that Tony Stark gave in Endgame, as it would steal some of the emotion that was put into it. I totally agree with that decision. And I think Paltrow should go catch up on at least her final phase in the MCU!
