Hailee Steinfeld Doesn't Seem So Sure About Playing Kate Bishop in Marvel's HAWKEYE Series
I was pretty excited and happy to learn that Hailee Steinfeld was offered the role of Kate Bishop in Marvel’s Hawkeye series for Disney+. She’s a great young actress who is actually kinda perfect for the role. Well, she has yet to sign on to the role, and it seems like it might not happen.
During a recent interview with the Radio Times, she dropped the disappointing news:
"That's not something that's necessarily happening. We're going to wait and find out, I guess."
What are they waiting for? I imagine that she is waiting to see if her schedule is open to make it work. After all, Steinfeld is in high demand, and I’m sure she has a lot of other projects to choose from. According to Variety, though, her Apple+ series Dickinson may be the reason Steinfeld can’t accept the offer. There’s a rumored non-compete clause that may be preventing her from agreeing to take on the role. When talking about the opportunity to join Hawkeye, she said:
“I think generally speaking, this sort of experience has prepared me for working in this sort of space. So whatever opportunity might present itself in this space, I do think I will be able to tackle it, now that I’ve had some experience under my belt."
I hope that things work out because it seems like the fans would love to see her in the role. Kate Bishop doesn’t have any superhuman abilities. But Hawkeye does train her to become a badass warrior, and she has a high level of skill in archery, sword fighting, and unarmed combat. Kate also possesses a significant stock of fighting weapons.
The series is set to be released in fall 2021 on Disney+ as part of Marvel’s Phase Four round of releases. All of the Marvel shows that are being produced will tie directly into the MCU movies, and they are being produced by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. Mad Men scribe Jonathan Igla is writing the series.
