Hailee Steinfeld is Rocking The 80s Punk Look in Set Photo From The BUMBLEBEE Movie

As production begins in the Transformers spin-off film Bumblebee, we have our first look at Hailee Steinfeld in the lead role of Charlie Watson. The actress posted the image on Twitter, and as you can see, she's sporting 80s-style punk look, which is the era that the film is set in. She's also teasing the character attitude with her look.

The story is set in the year 1987, where Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

I've enjoyed the work film work that Steinfeld has been a part of and I'm sure she'll be great in the film, which also stars John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny

I love that the film is being directed by Travis Knight because I'm such a huge fan of Kubo and the Two Strings. I hope he can bring that magic to this Bumblebee movie. When talking about the director of the film, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said this in an interview with Den of Geek:

“I think Bumblebee is an incredibly loved character. You pick [director] Travis Knight for a very specific reason. His movies are pretty extraordinary, Kubo and the Two Strings in particular. What we’re trying to do is deliver, a love story may be too strong of a term, but it is a coming of age for Bumblebee and our lead character, Hailee Steinfeld. The two of them, their job in the movie is to support each other to get to the place where they both fully realize who they are in that moment. It’s a very different kind of story. That plot is there, but it’s very muted, relative to the larger Transformers movies.”

It sounds like they actually have a solid handle on a good story for this movie. That's something we haven't really seen since the first Transformers movie and even that's debatable. Bumblebee will hit theaters on December 21, 2018.
