HALLOWEEN Producer Is Still Looking at Developing The Franchise as a TV Series
A couple of years ago it was reported that producer Malek Akkad’s was developing a TV series based on the classic horror film franchise, Halloween. With the new movie coming out soon and the creative team making the press rounds, Akkad was asked by Bloody-Disgusting for an update on the series and he says that he still wants to make it happen:
“You know, it’s something that we’ve had for a long time and I definitely want to see it done. When we started doing it… this was in development about a decade ago. At the time, I think the thought was we don’t want to cannibalize the theatrical. Let’s keep it as a theatrical event movie. If that starts flowing down, we would address TV. Nowadays, we all know, TV is pulling out ahead of theatrical in a way that surprised everybody, certainly me.”
He went on to confirm that if the series happened, it would involve Michael Myers. But, he also said that it wouldn’t be like a traditional Halloween movie:
“The one we were developing and that I still feel very strongly about, he’s involved in it. That’s really all I can say about it now. It wouldn’t look anything like your traditional Halloween movie, but he’s in there as are a lot of other characters but used in different and interesting ways. I wish I could talk more about it but it’s something we’re looking at very closely.”
As of right now, though, the focus is all on the movie that is coming out… as it should be:
“Just getting across the finish line for this one, that’s the goal right now. We’ve got the wind at our back, everything looks good. Before we start talking about anything else, it’s all about the movie. [The show] is something that there’s been some discussions.”
As a longtime fan of the Halloween franchise, I don’t know how I would feel about a TV series. Halloween has always been a cinematic event type of film for me. But, if they actually made a good series, sure, I’d watch it! If this is something they do move forward with, though, they better have a great concept for it!
