Hannah Waddingham Reveals the Only Circumstance in Which She Would Return to a TED LASSO Spinoff
Actress Hannah Waddingham beautifully played the role of Rebecca Welton, owner of the English Premiere League Football Club, AFC Richmond, in the hit Apple TV+ series, Ted Lasso. Rebecca had a great story throughout the three seasons, and she and Ted had a wonderful friendship that fans couldn’t get enough of. Fans also couldn’t get enough of speculating about a spinoff for the show after it ended, and Waddingham commented on the possibility in a recent interview with THR, in which she was clear about the only way she’d return, saying:
“Everyone keeps asking this, but no, there’s been no word of a spinoff at all, and I have made it quite clear that unless Ted was in it… I can’t imagine really a world where Rebecca exists without Ted because they are each other’s inspiration.”
She went on to talk about Ted and Rebecca’s relationship, saying that although there’s possibly quite a bit more story to tell, the beauty of them is at the root of their friendship, which we got to see play out.
“It possibly has far more longevity. They are out-and-out soulmates and just because that doesn’t then go to the bedroom, does that make it less? I don’t believe so, and I know Jason doesn’t.”
I loved the series, though I do wish it could have lasted longer. If we are lucky enough to see more stories set in the Ted Lasso universe, I’d be happy, but I only want it in the perfect circumstances, and it sounds like the creators agree.
