The R-Rated Puppet Noir Thriller THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS Finally Gets a Release Date
The Happytime Murders is a puppet/human film noir that has been in development hell for years. The first mention of the project was way back in 2010, and while there have been announcements since then, news has come slowly. But good news for all those ready for an R-rated puppet thriller, because a release date has finally been announced.
August 17th, 2018 is the date to mark on your calendar. STX has announced the date with director Brian Henson, son of Jim Henson. Melissa McCarthy is set to star in the film, which could have a very Roger Rabbit-esq vibe to it. It is about a human and puppet detective who have to solve a set of murders on the set of the Happytime Gang studio.
I'm excited that this is finally off the ground and that something is going to be done with it. I especially hope that more stars get involved with this film. Melissa McCarthy hasn't always been my favorite actress, but she has managed to be good in some films. There was news that Jamie Foxx was interested at one point, but there's no word if he'll be involved.
