Harrison Ford Did Some of His Own Red Hulk Mo-Cap Stunts in CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD
Harrison Ford seems to enjoy pushing boundaries and even at 82 years old, he’s still willing to tackle intense physical roles. We are going to see the actor play President Thaddeus Ross inCaptain America: Brave New World, and it will see him transform into the Red Hulk.
It turns out that Ford is embracing the challenge of playing this role with the same energy that made him an action icon.
The movie will see Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, now Captain America, clash with Red Hulk and it’s a battle that Marvel fans are looking forward to seeing, and Ford insisted that he do some of his own Red Hulk mo-cap stunts.
While Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Weta visual effects supervisor Dan Cox shared a fun behind-the-scenes moment that highlights Ford’s enthusiasm in playing this role. Cox recounted:
“Lemme tell you, he was all in that morning. The last thing you want is to be the person that hurts Harrison Ford. At one point, I needed him [to land], and thought, ‘We can have the stunt guy do it.’
“He’s like, ‘No, no, no! I’ll do it.’ I put up an apple box that’s about two feet off the ground. I’m like, ‘I need you to jump down onto the ground and land as a Hulk.’
“He did it about a dozen times, and every single time, I held my breath! But he went all in.”
This isn’t surprising for a man who’s built his career on action and adventure film. Ford has always been a hands-on actor. Even off-screen, his adrenaline-fueled lifestyle includes piloting planes and the occasional crash landing.
But hearing Ford willingly dive into the physically demanding world of motion capture is pretty cool! He didn’t have to do it, but he did!
Ford’s Red Hulk is feature in the film’s trailer and that seems to be the most exciting part about the movie for fans.
Sam Wilson officially took on the mantle of Captain America in the finale of Marvel’s The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. In the film, “After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident.
“He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.”
The film is directed by Julius Onah and produced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore.
Captain America: Brave New World opens in U.S. theaters on February 14, 2025.
