Harrison Ford Explains Why He Wanted Han Solo to Die for 30 Years

As you all know by now, Harrison Ford finally got his wish to have Han Solo killed off in a Star Wars movie. The actor has wanted to have his character killed off for the last 30 years, and in Star Wars: The Force Awakens it happened at the hands of his own son. Nooooooooooooo! During a recent Q&A with tumblr and EW.com, Ford explained why he wanted Solo to die, and it makes perfect sense:

"I think it's a fitting use of the character. I’ve been arguing for Han Solo to die for about 30 years, not because I was tired of him or because he’s boring, but his sacrifice for the other characters would lend gravitas and emotional weight."

He’s absolutely right. Only I wish it wouldn’t have happened so soon after having been re-introduced into to fans after all those years of not having him around. It was so great to see him, but then have him immediately taken away from us? Ouch. That hurt. It sure did pack a powerful punch, that’s for sure! So Ford did get that gravitas and emotional weight. It will be interesting to see how that all that emotional weight carriers over into the upcoming films.

Hey! At least, we’ll get to see Ford come back for at least one more Indiana Jones movie!
