Harrison Ford Says There Were Lots of "Old Jokes" That Were Taken Out of INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY
Harrison Ford is no stranger to starring in films with rich legacies and storied pasts that he helped create. He did it with Star Wars, and he is now wrapping up his journey with Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny, the final film in his Indiana Jones franchise. While making these movies is a whole new experience all these decades later, Ford sat down with THR to talk about how the old guy jokes that were written into the script originally had to be cut.
“In [Dial of Destiny] there were a lot of old jokes in the script. We took them all out. There is a moment where he observes himself in this situation and says, “What the fuck am I doing in here?” But I hate what I call “talking about the story.” I want to see circumstances in which the audience gets a chance to experience the story, not to be led through the nose with highlights pointed out to them. I’d rather create behavior that is the joke of age rather than talk about it.”
This makes sense. Ford has such a dry sense of humor. He’s not a cheesy, wink at the audience type actor. He wants the jokes to be clean, smart and subtle, and I respect that.
Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny is set to hit theatres on June 30, 2023. Are you looking forward to Ford’s final chapter as Indy?
