HARRY POTTER Director Chris Columbus Wants His 3-Hour Cut of the Original Film Released
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone had an original cut that was over three hours long, but the theatrical cut ended up being cut down to two hours and 32 minutes. Director Chris Columbus would love to see his original three-hour cut released.
In an interview with The Wrap, Columbus said, "We knew that the film worked because we did a couple of previews. Particularly a Chicago preview where our first cut was a three-hour cut. Parents afterwards said it was too long, the kids said it was too short. I thought, well, the kids presumably have a shorter attention span so this is a good thing."
But now, all those kids are grown up adults, and they’d probably love to see a three-hour cut of the film! Columbus goes on the share that the deleted scenes of the film involved a character named Peeves, who is a fan favorite character from the Harry Potter books. Peeves is a poltergeist who haunts Hogwarts, and he was played by Rik Mayall in the cut scenes.
In the interview, The Wrap reporter mentioned that he’d like to see the three-hour version released on the big screen, Columbus respond with, "I would too. We have to put Peeves back in the movie, who was cut from the movie!"
