Haunting First Trailer for Callum Turner’s Cyberpunk Epic NEUROMANCER

Apple TV has finally given fans their first look at Neuromancer, and while it only runs for 22 seconds, it does a good job of setting the mood.

The long-awaited adaptation of William Gibson’s groundbreaking 1984 cyberpunk novel teases an eerie, unsettling atmosphere that feels ripped straight from the pages of the classic sci-fi story.

The teaser takes a restrained approach. There’s no dialogue, no flashy effects, and no explanation. The footage simply shows someone switching on an old television with chunky front-mounted knobs as the mechanical hum of aging electronics fills the room.

The screen remains almost entirely black before the words "ASHPOOL 1" flash into view. Then comes the opening line from the source material:

"The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel."

The image immediately fades into static before the teaser cuts to black, leaving viewers with an unsettling first impression that feels incredibly faithful to Gibson's original vision.

Apple TV accompanied the teaser with the caption: "42 years ago, William Gibson introduced the world to Neuromancer. Now, the next chapter is loading." The teaser leans into the novel's haunting aesthetic.

Adapting the novel has never been a simple task. Gibson imagined the future through the lens of 1984, and many have wondered how that vision would translate for modern audiences.

The series comes from creators Graham Roland and J. D. Dillard, with Callum Turner leading the cast as Case. He'll be joined by Briana Middleton as Molly, Joseph Lee as Hideo, Mark Strong as Armitage, Peter Sarsgaard as John Ashpool, and Emma Laird as Linda Lee.

Apple's official logline reads: "A hacker and an assassin are thrust into a web of high-stakes crime as they take aim at a corporate dynasty."

There's still no premiere date for Neuromancer, but hopefully it delivers a stylish, atmospheric adaptation that understands exactly why Gibson's novel has remained such an influential piece of science fiction for more than four decades.
