Haunting Full Trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s FRANKENSTEIN Brings the Monster to Life

It’s alive! Guillermo del Toro’s long-awaited monster movie Frankenstein is finally about to rise from the dead. After years of anticipation, Netflix has unleashed a chilling full trailer that gives us a deeper look at del Toro’s gothic vision of this iconic story.

Del Toro, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water, and Hellboy, both wrote and directed this reimagining of Mary Shelley’s classic, and it’s been a dream project of his, and it looks like he’s made something special.

Leading the cast is Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, “a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.”

The role of the Creature is played by Jacob Elordi, and the impressive ensemble also includes Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.

The trailer does not disappoint as it shows off stunning cinematography, haunting score, elaborate costumes, and a haunting monter desgin that makes Elordi’s Creature look truly unsettling. Del Toro’s signature blend of beauty and horror is all over this footage.

Frankenstein has already made the festival rounds, including a premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month. Reactions have been strong, but not everyone has liked it.

Right now, it’s sitting at 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s definitely solid, but maybe not as high as many would expect from the pairing of del Toro and Shelley’s timeless story. Some critics are calling it a masterpiece, others less so, though many more reviews are still to come.

Whether audiences discover it in theaters or on Netflix, the big question is how del Toro’s meticulous, atmospheric style will translate to home viewing. His movies are meant to be experienced fully, not half-watched in the background, and Frankenstein looks like it’s demanding that kind of attention.

So far, the trailer sets the stage for a sweeping, tragic, and eerie retelling of one of literature’s most enduring monsters. Now we just wait to see if del Toro’s vision delivers when the Creature officially comes to life.

The movie is set to be released in theaters on October 17 before hitting Netflix on November 7.
