Haunting Teaser for MONSTER: THE ED GEIN Starring Charlie Hunnam as the Butcher of Plainfield

FX has dropped the chilling first teaser for Monster: The Ed Gein Story, and it gives us our first unsettling look at Charlie Hunnam as the infamous murderer and grave robber who inspired some of the most iconic villains in horror history.

The new series comes from Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, the creative team behind Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. This time, they’re pulling viewers into the cold heart of 1950s rural Wisconsin, where Ed Gein lived as a quiet recluse on his family’s decaying farm.

On the surface he appeared harmless, but hidden inside his home was a grotesque house of horrors that would change the way America defined fear.

Isolation, madness, and a disturbing obsession with his mother fueled Gein’s crimes. His real-life atrocities went on to inspire a lineage of horror classics, from Psycho to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to The Silence of the Lambs. Gein became the twisted template for modern horror itself.

Hunnam, stepping into the role of the man dubbed the Butcher of Plainfield, described the series as something much deeper than just a retelling of Gein’s crimes.

“This is going to be the really human, tender, unflinching, no-holds-barred exploration of who Ed was and what he did. But who he was being at the center of it, rather than what he did.”

Gein confessed to murdering two women in the 1950s and was notorious for exhuming corpses from local graveyards, crafting grotesque trophies out of their remains. While he was suspected in several other deaths, including that of his own brother, authorities were never able to connect him directly to those cases.

The cast surrounding Hunnam includes Laurie Metcalf who takes on the role of Augusta, Gein’s overbearing mother. Tom Hollander plays Alfred Hitchcock with Olivia Williams as Alma Reville.

Addison Rae appears as Evelyn Hartley, Charlie Hall steps in as Deputy Frank Worden, and Suzanna Son’s role remains under wraps. The ensemble also includes Lesley Manville, Joey Pollari, Tyler Jacob Moore, Mimi Kennedy, Will Brill, and Robin Weigert.

Monster: The Ed Gein Story promises to be as unsettling as the man who inspired it, diving into the twisted psychology of one of history’s most notorious criminals while exploring how his crimes shaped the horror genre for decades to come.
