Have You Heard of The Aztec Death Whistle That Sounds Like Blood-Curdling Screams?
For those of you not familiar with the Aztec death whistle, I've got a video here that you have to watch from Gizmodo. It offers some extensive information on the death whistle that is absolutely fascinating! You'll also get to hear what the death whistle sounds like and it's such a chilling and blood-curdling sound that will make your skin crawl.
The whistles were found with beheaded skeleton that was unearthed in the 1990s. One of the whistles was in the shape of a skull and when a researcher blew into one of them, the horrifying sounds that emerged were described as "a shriek of death." It's awesomely dreadful! I want a whistle like this!
The true purpose of these whistles have baffled researchers, but the popular theory is that they were used to terrify their enemies in battle. Jaime Arredondo, an art historian and professor of Mesoamerican and Latino studies at New York University said:
"You can imagine the frightening sound if you had 200 or 300 or 5,000 warriors blowing these instruments. That would be extremely intimidating."
