Hayao Miyazaki Tribute Video: "The Essence of Humanity"
"Creating animation means creating a fictional world. That world soothes the spirit of those who are disheartened and exhausted from dealing with the sharp edges of reality."
If you're a fan of the animated films created by Hayao Miyazaki, we have a tribute video here for you to watch. This is a video essay that explores "The Essence of Humanity" of the films Miyazaki has made over the years. The video focuses on Miyazaki's storytelling style and the "emotional intricacies" of his characters.
It was created by YouTube user Channel Criswell, who is the same guy that made the "Colour in Storytelling" video we posted this past weekend. He says:
“Miyazaki is not your typical animator. He took an approach to animated filmmaking that concentrates on the emotional intricacies of his subjects as opposed to creating, ironically, cartoony characters. His aim wasn’t to make things that spoke down to children. His aim was to make films that would help all us further understand the human condition.”
The video is 17 minutes long and it's worth checking out when you have the time.
