Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli is Getting It's Very Own Theme Park in Japan

Hayao Miyazaki’s iconic animation studio Studio Ghibli is going to be getting its first theme park and as you might expect, it will be located in Japan.

It’s explained that Studio Ghibli will handle the creative side of the project and the park will be filled with five-themed areas based on films such as Howl’s Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, and more. Those were the only two movies mentioned in the report, tough.

The theme park will be built within Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park. “The venue, not far from Nagoya in central Japan, was a world’s fair held for 185 days in 2005 that attracted nearly 22 million visitors to its 460-acre site.”

The park is scheduled to open in the fall of 2022, with additional attractions opening a year later. Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki, jokingly said that Miyazaki, who is currently working on a new feature, “is really worried about the Ghibli park. He can’t leave anything up to other people. He’s a meddlesome old man.”

It was also revealed that Miyazaki’s only son Goro Miyazaki “is working hard (on the park project), but (Miyazaki) is not the type to look on supportively from a distance. He starts in right away with ‘do this’ and ‘don’t do that’.”

Well, it looks like it time for me to finally start planning a trip to Japan. I’ve always wanted to go, and this just might be the thing that finally gets me there. Gotta start saving my money!
