Hayden Christensen Addresses Not Being Asked To Play Darth Vader in ROGUE ONE
The last time we saw Hayden Christensen in the role of Anakin Skywalker is when he was transformed into Darth Vader, with the iconic mask being lowered onto his face at the end of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. After all these years, the actor is now set to reprise his role in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series where he will once again face off with his former friend.
It’s pretty cool that Christensen is coming back to the role and for those of you wondering why the actor wasn’t asked to come back for Rogue One, which featured an awesome scene with Darth Vader, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy says he wasn’t even considered for the Rogue role because "that was just such a specific action sequence."
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Christensen addressed not being asked to come back for the film, saying: "I wasn't a part of any of those conversations about Rogue One. But I loved what they did with it. The character predates me, and it's always been a collective effort in a lot of ways. I thought it was brilliant."
Lucasfilm ended up casting former professional boxer Spencer Wilding in the role and stunt actor Daniel Naprous. Then, of course, James Earl Jones once again returned to voice the character.
Vader has always been a character that can be played by a team of different actors and Christensen understands that. But, it must’ve been cool for him to be asked to come back to play the character in this upcoming Star Wars series!
