Hayley Atwell Expresses Interest in Having Peggy Carter Return to the MCU
So many great Marvel characters have come and gone over the years. Both on the big screen and the small screen in the case of Hayley Atwell, who has played Peggy Carter for Marvel. She not only appeared in the first two Captain America films but also had two seasons of her very own TV series following the early adventures of Peggy Carter. While canceled relatively soon, it was incredible to see what it was able to build. But recently she’s mentioned that she wouldn’t mind coming back.
I loved Hayley Atwell’s portrayal of Peggy Carter. She was both strong and independent and fun to watch. Especially on her show. During an interview with IGN, while promoting Howards End on Starz, she was asked if she’d want to come back to the MCU.
"I’d love to see [Peggy] more in films. I’d love to see her in her own film. And if we can keep evolving it so that she does new things so that I can surprise myself and she can keep surprising me then I’d love to do it."
She also talked about how much of an influence the fans have had on her.
"And I feel very privileged to be part of something that people really love and that entertains them. But also, you're going to these conventions and meeting people who've named their son Carter and people who have a tattoo of 'I Know My Value,' the tagline. She's a force of good and there are a lot of social media sites where girls and guys have come together and become good friends on an international scale because of their belief in some of the values that Peggy talks about. And that provides them with a different connection that a family situation or school situation that they don't really feel they have a place in. That's really cool to me. So I'm very happy to be a part of that world and keep that going."
I personally don’t see her making a huge comeback in the films, but one never knows. I think what would be better is to see Marvel do a two-part TV miniseries to finish up what they started. The second season left on quite a cliffhanger that I feel, as well as many others, needs to be concluded. It would definitely be interesting to maybe come back to in a few years or so. Work out a solid finale and make it so. I would absolutely be down for something like that.
