Hayley Atwell Wants to Do More with Peggy Carter in the MCU; MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Wasn't the Trajectory She Imagined
Hayley Atwell has had an interesting path in the MCU as Peggy Carter. The last time we saw her was in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness where she was brutally killed while battling Scarlet Witch. This was a version of the character from an alternate universe, where she is Captain Carter and a member of the Illuminati. So, while this version of the character is dead, there are multiple other versions that are still running around in the MCU multiverse.
When talking to Digital Spy about what happened in Multiverse of Madness, Atwell explained: "It was definitely not, you know, the trajectory that I see for Peggy. I would definitely like her to have more to do."
As for whether Peggy will return, Atwell understands it’s out of her hands, saying: "It depends on what Marvel, and what the audiences, want," she continued:
"I'm a custodian of her. Compared to the rest of my career and everything I've done or my stage work and doing Mission: Impossible now and all the diversity of roles I've played, and the diversity that I get to explore, and to be able to play more complex roles and villains and lots of different things – she is not mine anymore. She lives in the world of people that have taken her into their heart. And that's beautiful. But it's kind of like: yeah, you can't control the impact a particular role has on the rest of the world."
I’m a fan of Atwell’s Peggy Carter character, and I would love to see her return at some point in the future. It would be great to see her back in action. We do know that we’ll see her return as Captain Carter in the upcoming second season of the What If…? animated series. But, I hope she’ll be back in live-action form.
