HBO Cancels HERE AND NOW After First Season

Deadline offered us some bummer news yesterday. HBO has canceled their series Here and Now after just it's first season. The show was a family drama, sprinkled with dark humor, about a couple, their three adopted adult children, and their biological teen-aged daughter. It dealt with mental illness, racial tension, diversity, religion, familial relations, and so much more.

It was a show that my husband, Billy, and I were super into! We got other people to watch it too, and every episode was a major topic of conversation. The viewer numbers just weren't high enough to sustain it. But I kind of blame marketing, as we had never heard anything about the show until I just happened to be browsing through HBO, setting up Barry to record, I believe (another great show on right now, that they better not cancel!), and I stumbled upon Here and Now and we gave it a shot.

The cast was solid, including Tim Robbins, Holly Hunter, and honestly a completely compelling set of lesser-known actors. The story was great. It's just such a bummer it had to end. And on a cliffhanger! Maybe if we write to HBO, we could make a difference? Or hope it gets picked up by another network? What do you guys think? Who else is bummed, and ready to make a fuss?
