In a surprising move, HBO has canceled the horror series Lovecraft Country and it will not be renewed for a second season. I thought for sure this show would get a Season 2! It was a solid, interesting, and entertaining series, but HBO shared the following statement:

“We will not be moving forward with a second season of ‘Lovecraft Country. We are grateful for the dedication and artistry of the gifted cast and crew, and to Misha Green, who crafted this groundbreaking series. And to the fans, thank you for joining us on this journey.”

Creator Misha Green went on to share a tease of what Season 2 would entail and it would have been titled Lovecraft: Country Supremecy. She shared an image of the continental United States divided into four nations. There was a 75-page Bible created for the second season of Lovecraft Country, but no scripts had been written for what would have been a 10-episode season.

The first season of the show based on the solo novel of the same name by Matt Ruff. It followed 25-year-old Atticus Black (Jonathan Majors), who joins up with his friend Letitia “Leti” Dandridge (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America to find his missing father. They must survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the malevolent spirits that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback. The series also starred Michael K. Williams, Aunjanue Ellis, Wunmi Mosaku, Abbey Lee, and Jamie Chung.

The second season would have gone beyond what came in the source material and I would have liked to see where they would have taken the wild story.

Jordan Peele executive produced the film along with J.J. Abrams and Ben Stephenson.
