HBO's GAME OF THRONES Prequel Series TALES OF DUNK AND EGG Lands a Writer

Almost a year ago HBO announced that they were developing another Game of Thrones prequel series. That series will be an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s book Tales of Dunk and Egg, which is a series of fantasy novellas.

The stories follow the adventures of the hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall, who would become a legendary member of the Kingsguard, and his squire Egg, who would become King Aegon V Targaryen of Westeros. The stories are set 90 years prior to the events of A Song of Ice and Fire.

There are novellas that have been published including The Hedge Knight (1998), The Sworn Sword (2003), and The Mystery Knight (2010). A collection of the three novellas, with illustrations by Gary Gianni, was published as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in 2015.

That project is officially moving forward as a writer has been hired to develop the series. According to a report by Variety, Steve Conrad will serve as the main writer and executive producer. He is known for his work on projects such as The Pursuit of Happyness, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and Wonder. He’s also worked on Amazon's Patriot, AMC's Ultra City Smiths animated series, and Epix's Perpetual Grace LTD.

The other Game of Thrones prequel series currently in development is House of the Dragon, which will tell the story that leads to the Targaryen civil war in Westeros that is known as the Dance of Dragons. That series is set to debut in 2022.
