HBO's Limited Series THE NIGHT OF Gets an Atmospheric New Trailer
A few years ago, James Gandolfini was slated to star in a limited HBO series called Criminal Justice. But then he unexpectedly passed away, and Robert De Niro stepped in to replace him in the project. De Niro bailed soon after because of scheduling issues, but HBO kept it in development anyway. The project got a new name — The Night Of — and John Turturro ended up taking on the lead role, starring opposite Nightcrawler and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor Riz Ahmed. You may have seen brief teaser trailers for the limited series airing on HBO over the past couple of months, but now the network has released a new one that gives us our best look yet at what to expect.
THE NIGHT OF delves into the intricacies of a complex New York City murder case with cultural and political overtones. The story examines the police investigation, the legal proceedings, the criminal justice system and the feral purgatory of Rikers Island, where the accused await trial for felony crimes.
Steven Zallian, the Oscar-winning writer of Schindler's List, Mission: Impossible, Gangs of New York, and American Gangster, is the main creative force behind the scenes here, having written all of the episodes and directed the majority of them. The Night Of premieres on HBO on July 10th at 9pm.
