HBO's SPAWN Animated Series is an Incredible Dark and Complex Show That You Need To Watch

There’s been a lot of talk about Todd McFarlane’s Spawn recently due to the movie that is currently in development and the recent addition of the character in Mortal Kombat 11. I know a lot of fans are already familiar with HBO’s Spawn animated series, but I also know there are a lot of people out there that haven’t watched it yet.

If you are one of those people who have not seen this series yet, you really need to take the time to check it out. This is an awesome show that is super dark and complex. It’s also the best adaptation of Spawn that has been made. The series aired on HBO from 1997 through 1999 and it even won an Emmy in 1999 for Outstanding Animation Program.

The series had some great talent involved with its development including Eric Radomski and Frank Paur who both previously worked on Batman: The Animated Series. The series has such a striking and cool stylistic art and animation style that was both influenced by Batman: The Animated Series and anime. The series also had an incredible voice cast that was led by Keith David, who is the definitive Spawn for a lot of fans.

Todd McFarlane and the many members of the creative team for the Spawn animated show were actually developing an animated film after the series came to an end, but unfortunately, it never got made. That film would have been awesome! I saw some art that was created for it years ago.

Spawn is a show worth revisiting if you haven’t seen it in a while and if you’ve never seen, you should watch it. It’s currently available to stream on HBO. If you haven’t watched the series, I should warn you… this is not a kids show. This is a mature and adult-themed animated series that deals with some pretty messed up subject matter.

Below you will find the intro for the series, a video that breaks down the show and offers details you may not have known, and then there’s an interview with McFarlane and David talking about working on the series.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
