HBO's TRUE BLOOD Could've Starred Benedict Cumberbatch, Jennifer Lawrence, and Jessica Chastain

HBO’s vampire series True Blood was a fantastic series that I enjoyed watching when it was on the air. I especially liked the cast of the series. The show helped launch the careers of several actors like Alexander Skarsgard, Stephen Moyer, Joe Manganiello, and more.

A lot of actors auditioned for this series, but the creator, Alan Ball, recently revealed that three big A-list actors went through the audition process before they were famous. Those actors included Benedict Cumberbatch, Jessica Chastain, and Jennifer Lawrence.

During the 10th-anniversary screening of the pilot, Ball said that Cumberbatch came out to read for Bill. Chastain auditioned for the role of Sookie Stackhouse, which ultimately went to Anna Paquin. Then there’s Jennifer Lawrence, who was up for the part of a were-panther.

When talking about Lawrence, Ball explained that she wasn’t cast because she was too young for the role. He said that “She was great, but all the women in the room, because she was going to be Jason’s girlfriend, and she was 17 at the time, were like, ‘No that’s gross.’”

Makes sense that they would pass on her. In the end, everything worked out for these actors! Hell, it seemed to work out better for them having not been cast in the series!

True Blood was great the way it was, but it’s interesting to think about what the series would have been like with these other actors in the roles.
