HBO's TRUE BLOOD Reboot Has No Plans To Bring Back The Original Cast
A couple of months ago HBO announced that they were developing a reboot of the popular vampire series True Blood. At the time of the announcement, there was no information on the series or if any of the original cast members would return.
Well, Deadline is reporting that there are no plans to bring back the original cast, and when addressing how the revival of True Blood, along with the Sex and the City and Game of Thrones franchise revivals, are what draw the most attention from fans, HBO and HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys said:
“It is something I’m mindful of, rebooting material is something we are experiencing across the industry. There is power in that, you are dealing with nostalgia and people’s emotional connection with a show but like with anything, I don’t want to do too many. I think there are original stories to tell, and we don’t want to lose that, so it’s always a balancing act.”
The True Blood reboot is being written and executive produced by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Jami O’Brien (NOS4A2), and original series creator and showrunner Alan Ball is also attached to executive produce.
With none of the original characters returning, this True Blood series will be a hard reboot, but we don’t know if it will be a retelling of the source material and the previous series or if it will explore a different story in the same fantastical world.
