Heather Graham Teases Mike Flanagan’s CARRIE Series, Says It Nails What Made the Original So Haunting

It’s been over 50 years since Carrie first shocked readers, and now the story is getting a fresh spin for a new generation. With Mike Flanagan at the helm, the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios series is something fans of horror are definitely going to want to check out.

One of the stars of the show, Heather Graham, recently dropped some interesting details about the project while appearing at MegaCon Orlando, giving us a clearer idea of how this new take expands on the classic story.

Graham revealed how her character fits into the familiar dynamic longtime fans will recognize, saying, “If you remember the original movie, Carrie’s got two main antagonists.

“She has her mother, and she has the girl at school who’s bullying her. I played the mom of the girl at school who’s bullying her.”

That’s a fun twist that adds another layer to the social ecosystem surrounding Carrie White. Instead of just focusing on the high school cruelty, the series looks like it’s digging deeper into the people who shape that behavior.

Flanagan isn’t just retelling the story either. According to Graham, he’s expanding it in ways that could stretch beyond a single season. “Hopefully they’re looking to do maybe a second season too.”

Graham has already seen a chunk of the show and seems genuinely excited about how it turned out. “They bring in an aspect of social media bullying and guns in school, so they try to modernize it, and I do feel like [Flanagan] captures the essence of what makes Carrie great,” said Graham.

The original themes of isolation, cruelty, and power haven’t gone anywhere, but the way teens experience them today has changed dramatically. Bringing in elements like online harassment could make the story hit in a different way.

The series wrapped production last October and reimagines Carrie White’s story from the ground up. After the sudden death of her father, Carrie is thrown into the chaos of high school life while dealing with relentless bullying and the emergence of her telekinetic abilities, all under the watch of her controlling mother.

The cast has got some great talent. Summer Howell takes on the role of Carrie, alongside Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle and Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White.

The supporting lineup includes Alison Thornton, Thalia Dudek, Siena Agudong, Amber Midthunder, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, and Joel Oulette, with additional appearances from Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco, Katee Sackhoff, Rahul Kohli, Crystal Balint, and Danielle Klaudt.

Flanagan has built a reputation for delivering character-driven horror that actually sticks with you, so seeing him tackle Carrie feels like a natural fit.

For fans of Stephen King adaptations and Flanagan’s style of storytelling, this is sure to be a great and interesting series.
