Henry Cavill Was Told He Was 'A Little Chubby' to Play James Bond
You know it’s hard in Hollywood for the ladies. They can’t look older, they can’t gain weight, you know the drill. But we rarely hear about men getting as picked on about their appearances. Especially men who are handsome enough to play superheroes. But that’s what happened to Man of Steel and Justice League Superman actor Henry Cavill when he met with Casino Royale director Martin Campbell in talks to play the famed spy James Bond.
In a recent interview with Men’s Health, Cavill spoke out about the meeting, saying:
I probably could have prepared better. I remember the director, Martin Campbell, saying, ‘Looking a little chubby there, Henry.’ I didn’t know how to train or diet. And I’m glad Martin said something, because I respond well to truth. It helps me get better.
Good for Cavill! He took a negative situation and used it as fuel to achieve greatness. I think he would make a fantastic 007, but if he had gotten that part, he may not have been available to play Superman, so I suppose it all worked out. And while I don’t appreciate or endorse shaming as a form of motivation, as it doesn’t work with everyone, and usually has negative results, I can say that if it really was Campbell’s frankness that motivated Cavill, then well done. Very well done, indeed.
