Henry Cavill Hasn't Given Up On Superman Yet, Says "The Cape Is Still in the Closet"
We have no idea what Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are planning for the future of Henry Cavill’s Superman. No plans for the character have officially been shared, but regardless of any of that, Henry Cavill hasn’t given up on the character yet! He’s ready to jump back into the role whenever the studio comes knocking.
In a recent interview with THR, the actor was asked about Superman and he offered the following candid response:
"There is still a lot of storytelling for me to do as a Superman, and I would absolutely love the opportunity. The killing of Zod gave a reason for the character never to kill again. Superman falling to the ground and screaming afterward — I don't think that was originally in the script, but I wanted to show the pain he had. I did far more emotional takes they didn't choose; tears were happening. He just killed the last remaining member of his species. That's the choice he made in that moment, and he'll never do that again. There's an opportunity for growth after that, to explore the psyche of Superman as a deep, seemingly invulnerable god-like being but with real feeling on the inside. As I always say, 'The cape is still in the closet.'"
I would love to see Cavill’s Superman explored further in sequel! Who know if it’ll ever happen, though. If it did happen, it would be interesting to see who would come in to direct it because it’s not gonna be Zack Snyder.
As of right now, the only Superman film project in development is the one coming from J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates, and it will tell the story of a Black version of Superman. There’s also a Supergirl film in development.
