Henry Cavill is Reportedly Hanging Up His Red Cape and Walking Away From Superman

Looks like the DCEU is about to take another big blow. According to THR, Henry Cavill, who has played Superman in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Justice League, is looking at hanging up his red cape and walking away from the role.

I’ll be honest, this is a bummer to hear because regardless of how I feel about the DC films, I really did like Cavill in the role of Superman. He fit the role so well and I would have liked to see him return at some point for a Man of Steel sequel.

According to the report, Warner Bros. has been trying to get Cavill to appear as Superman in the upcoming Shazam! movie, but “contract talks between Cavill's WME reps and Warners broke down, and the door is now closing on other potential Superman appearances.”

The report goes on to say that one of the reasons for this is because the studio has “shifted its focus to a Supergirl movie, which will be an origin story featuring a teen superheroine. This effectively removes an actor of Cavill's age from the storyline's equation given that Superman, aka Kal-El, would be an infant, according to DC lore.”

It’s also said that the studio doesn’t have any plans to make another solo Superman for for several years. An inside source told the outlet, "Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors." Another source says that the studio is trying to “hit a reset button for the DC Universe, steering its ship slowly into another direction.”

Well, if that’s the thought process at the studio then I guess Cavill shouldn’t stick around. I don’t blame him for wanting to jump ship. It sucks that we may never see Cavil in the role of Superman again, but he is set to star in Netflix’s The Witcher series, and that’s even more exciting!

What do you all think about the strong possibility of Henry Cavill no longer playing Superman?
