Henry Cavill is Set to Star in Netflix's THE WITCHER Series!
Last month Henry Cavill came out and said that he wanted to take on the role of Geralt in Netflix's upcoming The Witcher series. Well, it looks like the producers of the series were paying attention because they ended up casting him in the role!
Cavill will lead the series in the role of Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, who "struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together."
This is pretty exciting casting news! A lot of fans loved the idea of Cavill playing Geralt and now that it's actually happening, I imagine that several other big name actors will follow suit and join the project.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is the executive producer and showrunner on the series and she's done a great job keeping fans updated on the development of the series. In addition, Alik Sakharov, Alex Garcia Lopez, and Charlotte Brändström will all direct portions of the eight-episode first season. Sakharov will direct four episodes, including the first. Garcia Lopez and Brändström will direct two each.
The show is based on Andrzej Sapkowski's book and CD Projekt Red's game trilogy. When previously talking about the show, Hissrich assured fans that it would not be a watered down version of the dark and hardcore story that fans love.
The Witcher chronicles monster hunters who, with training and body modification, develop supernatural abilities at a young age to battle deadly beasts. Executive producers Sean Daniel and Jason Brown previously released the following statement offering some additional insight into the story:
“The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world. The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.”
This will mark Cavill’s first TV role since he appeared on Showtime’s historical drama The Tudors back in 2010. I like the film work that Cavill has done in recent years and I can't wait to see him in The Witcher!
What do you all think about Cavill taking on the role of Geralt in The Witcher series?
