Henry Cavill Shares His Thoughts on the Possibility of Playing James Bond
Henry Cavill has been in the news a lot lately due to the fact he’s back as Superman in the DC cinematic universe and he also recently left The Witcher series to focus on that and other film projects. Cavill is also one actor that is constantly brought up by fans as someone who could take on the role of James Bond.
Cavill was actually the runner-up to play the character if Daniel Craig ended up not doing it. Everything would have been so different had Cavill played James Bond! Not just with the Bond franchise, but he also may have never been cast as Superman!
There’s been talk that the producers are looking to cast a “thirty-something” actor for the next iteration of Bond. Cavill could still easily play this role, the question is, at this point in his career with so much going on, would he still be interested in taking on the role?
That question came up during an interview with Happy Sad Confused and this is how Cavill addressed that question:
“Yeah. I’m quite busy now. I love those guys, Barbara [Broccoli] and Mike [G. Wilson]. … Whether I’m considered for the role or not, I don’t know. But it’d be fun to have the conversation, for sure. And if I’m not, then I just want to see what they do with it next, because I think they’re amazing.”
Cavill went on to share some fond memories from his Casino Royale audition and his meetings with franchise producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. He shared:
“They are wonderful, and I have very fond memories of having cocktails with them. I think at Mike’s house once, and then I had a Vesper martini with Barbara. Which I thought was fitting, because it was for Casino Royale. It was a really, really fun time, and it was great to be in the mix with that stuff.”
I think Cavill would be great in the role of James Bond, but I also think I’d much rather see him focus on other film projects. Now that he’s back to help develop the Superman franchise that’s going to keep him busy and he also just recently signed on to another spy thriller from director Guy Ritchie titled The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which is inspired by real events that follows UK PM Winston Churchill’s and James Bond scribe Ian Fleming’s secret WWII combat organization.
So, Cavill is kind of already making his James Bond film!
