Henry Cavill's Return to Superman Is Reportedly in Trouble and There's No Forward Movement

It was an exciting day to learn that Henry Cavill was back as Superman! It’s something that the fans have been hoping to see happen for years! Well, it turns out that his return to the superhero is in trouble. According to The Wrap, there’s no concrete deal in place for Cavill to return as the Man of Steel, and there’s no writer or director attached to the film.

They go on to say that there’s “no forward momentum on the project.” As you know, DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have been figuring out their plans for the future of the DC Cinematic Universe, and there’s a chance that those plans might not include Cavill’s Superman.

There’s no doubt that Gunn and Safran have been discussing lots of things in these meetings in figuring out what to do, and it wouldn’t be surprising to learn that they’ve discussed scrapping all of the DCEU stuff so they can just start from scratch, which is something I’ve heard. But, we don’t know what plan they’ve actually decided to move forward with.

They do have a plan, though, and Gunn has confirmed that they will reveal this plan to Warner Bros. Discovery in two months. Right now, they’re in the process of polishing everything up and getting ready to present it to them.

Now, Cavill has been very excited about the future of Superman and has been hyping up his return with the type of tone that he’d like the next movie to have. But, according to what’s been coming out, there is a chance that the movie won’t happen.

I would love nothing more than for James Gunn to take to Twitter and shut these reports down. He has done that in the past, but he also doesn’t spend as much time on social media these days as he used to. I’ve been super excited about Cavill reprising his role as Superman! I hope that it happens! However, I can also understand why they would want to start from scratch. It’s just so much easier to start with a clean slate.

It’s going to be really interesting to learn what Gunn and Safran are planning. It’ll probably be a while before they announce anything to the fans, so right now, all we can do is speculate and read the rumors.

What do you all think about this craziness?
