Henry Thomas (The Haunting of Hill House) and Samantha Mathis (Billions) are the latest actors to join the cast of the prequel film based on Stephen King’s classic terrifying horror story Pet Sematary at Paramount Players.

Thomas and Mathis join the previously announced cast of Jackson White, Forrest Goodluck, Jack Mulhern, Natalie Alyn Lind, Isabella Star LeBlanc, and Pam Grier. Production on the film started last week, and Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess is a Loser, Chaos Walking) is directing from a script that she wrote.

Plot details for the Pet Sematary prequel haven’t been revealed, but the original story, which the 1989 and also the 2019 pic were loosely based on, with their own different twists, followed a family, who after tragedy strikes, discover an ancient burial ground behind their home with the power to raise the dead.

We do know that the film will feature a young version of Jud Crandall, so there’s a good chance that the story will focus on his story. He has a very interesting background story, and it would be great to see that story told. In King’s book, Crandall is the one that introduces the family to the ancient burial ground and later unveils its secrets to the husband and father of the family following a tragic event in their lives…something he would soon regret doing.

The Pet Semetary prequel will debut exclusively on Paramount+.
