Henry Winkler to Star in Comedy Series LAST CHANCE LAWYER in the Works at NBC

Henry Winkler (Happy Days, Barry) has signed on to star in a new NBC comedy titled Last Chance Lawyer. With the success of Kathy Bates’ CBS hit drama Matlock, this seems to be another story of a witty and hardworking attorney of a certain age.

Written and executive produced by Mike Gagerman and Andrew Waller (Search Party), Last Chance Lawyer centers on hard-driving and unconventional criminal defense attorney Howard Greenberg (Winkler) who is a fierce advocate for his underdog clients, believing that no matter what they are accused of, the system is always guiltier.

This marks NBC’s return to the legal comedy arena months after the Night Court revival ended its three-season run on the network. It also marks Winkler’s return to NBC where he had a recurring role on Parks and Recreation.

Winkler, a 10-time Emmy nominee who won in 2018 for HBO’s Barry, recently revealed that he has no intention of slowing down at age 80.

Noting on the IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson podcast that he “works a lot” and has “several jobs,” including his History Channel series Hazardous History. He said, “People keep asking me am I gonna retire, or, ‘Have you retired?’ And I think that is the furthest thing from my imagination. I will retire when I am not able to [act] again, more.”

He then added of potentially retiring, “I just think that it is deadly.”

Winkler, most recently seen opposite Bob Odenkirk on the movie Normal and in an episode of Apple TV’s Loot last fall, has the film Rolling Loud coming up this year.
