Henry Zaga Officially Set to Play Sunspot in NEW MUTANTS Film

Actor Henry Zaga, who is one of the actors in the Netflix series 13 Reason's Why has been cast as Sunspot in director Josh Boone's New Mutants film. Also known as Robert da Costa, Sunspot is a Brazilian Mutant with a unique ability to manipulate Solar Energy. It will be interesting to see how that will be used in the film.

In the comics, that could mean anything from absorbing the solar energy and using it to make him fly, or also absorbing the energy to blast it back at people with fire. It is likely that they will have his Solar form, which is like the Human Torch but with a pitch black body with glowing eyes and a mouth and fiery spots radiating off of him.

Although his character has changed often in the comics, da Costa has always been very cocky and clever. Also, he was a token Brazilian on the X-Men, and of course he played soccer.

I haven't seen 13 Reason's Why, so I'm not sure exactly what kind of an actor Henry Zaga is, but he definitely looks the part. And looking the part is half the battle. I've heard Zaga is a decent actor in 13 Reason Why, and I've heard nothing but good things about the show. So far, Marvel's New Mutants is gathering a fantastic young cast.

Zaga will join Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), who is playing Cannonball; Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), who was cast in the role of Wolfsbane; and Anya Taylor-Joy (Split) will play Magik. Rosario Dawson is also looking to join the project as well.
