Here's a First Look at Dr. Drakken and Shego in KIM POSSIBLE

I loved Kim Possible when it first came out on Disney Channel. The adventures and characters were fantastic. Then, they announced a live-action film, and it naturally piqued my interest. Sadie Stanley looks pretty great in costume as Kim Possible, and it got me interested in seeing how they handle the villainous Dr. Drakken (played by Todd Stashwick) and Shego (played by Taylor Ortega). We now have a first look photo of the evil pair, thanks to Entertainment Weekly, and I have some concerns.

First, I think that overall Shego looks great. I wish her skin were that weird green and pale combination, but it seems like a small change that shouldn’t be an issue. I also wish the green in her costume was more prominent, but they’re making changes to all the costumes, and it still looks good. Also, Adam B. Stein, the co-director, does explain why they updated her costume, so I can’t find too much fault with that.

When we looked at live-action versions of the original costume, it felt a bit like pajamas.

Second, Drakken’s costume looks great. His face does not. What is going on with the blue veins? It seems really weird to me that they decided to go from just blue skin to bulging blue veins over his face. I think he would’ve been served better by actually painting his face a pale blue. According to EW, Zach Lipovsky, Stein’s co-director, mentioned that they decided against the blue skin to make it less cartoony and more grounded, but I have to ask what the heck those veins are?! If he didn’t have the weird blue veins, I’d be happy as a clam right now and wouldn’t mind. Those veins just look stupid to me though, and no, it doesn’t look like a blue infection, it just looks like his veins are about to burst.

It’s like he’s got a blue infection within. It’s like some experiment or some dastardly plan went wrong years ago and now he’s got this side effect where he’s got a bluish hue.

Also, does he have the little mullet? We can’t see that angle in the picture, but it looks like he won’t which has me a little sad. Drakken should always have a mullet.

Kim Possible is expected to be released in 2019, and while it was originally announced for Disney Channel, I wonder if it will switch to Disney+.
