Here's a Lot of News About POKEMON SWORD and POKEMON SHIELD
The other day, we got a huge dump of new information for the upcoming Pokémon games, Pokémon Shield and Pokémon Sword. First, we were introduced to a few new Pokémon, then we were introduced to some new characters including two Gym Leaders, we learned about Gigantamaxing, and we even learned about our very first version exclusive Pokémon.
Let’s talk about Pokémon! Four new Pokémon were introduced to us in the video. The first new creature is Alcremie which is a whipped cream monster that is a Fairy-type Pokémon with the Sweet Veil ability. The coolest new addition was the Steel/Dragon-type Duraludon which appears to be a natural enemy of Tyranitar. Duraludon’s ability will be either Light Metal or Heavy Metal. Rolycoly is going to be one of those Pokémon that people point to saying that the creators have lost all creativity in creating new Pokémon. He’s a piece of coal. The Rock-type Pokémon will have either the Steam Engine or Heatproof ability. Finally, Yamper got his official debut. The internet has already been fawning over the Electric-type corgi, and this creature will bring a new ability to the game called Ball Fetch which will recover the first Pokeball that doesn’t capture a Pokémon.
Four new characters were introduced in the latest video. First, we have Chairman Rose, who is in charge of the Galar Pokémon League and the large business conglomerate. Next, we get Oleana who is Rose’s secretary. She’s described as being calm and collected. These two characters are already the number one pick for suspected bad guys of Sword and Shield. The other characters we met were the Fighting-type Gym Leader Bea and the Ghost-type Gym Leader Allister. What makes these two awesome is that they and their gyms will be exclusive to the different games. If you pick up Pokémon Sword, you’ll be facing off against Bea while Shield players will fight Allister.
We’ve been learning about Dynamaxing in these new games, and it sounds pretty fun. Making your Pokémon grow like a Power Rangers baddie just sounds cool to me. Now we know that there’s another level called Gigantamaxing. This new mechanic is like Dynamax, but it involves the Pokémon’s appearance changing. For instance, Alcremie becomes a 98’ 5” wedding cake. A new appearance isn’t all that these Pokémon get, though. Gigantamaxed Pokémon also get a G-Max Move that is really powerful. However, it should be noted that not all Pokémon can Gigantamax. Only certain Pokémon of certain species will be able to Gigantamax.
Finally, we have our first entries in the version exclusive lists. If you grab Pokémon Sword, you’ll get access to the Deino and Jangmo-o families. If you prefer Pokémon Shield, you’ll get Goomy and Larvitar. This list is sure to grow as we get closer to launch, and I’m glad they’re finally revealing some of these details to help people make informed decisions about which version they want. Which one are you wanting to grab?
Pokemon Shield and Pokemon Sword will be available November 15.
