Here's the Breakdown for the PS5 Event

Well, Sony held their PS5 – The Future of Gaming Show event today, and it certainly happened. Going into the event, I was personally really wanting Sony to reveal why I should buy a PS5 instead of staying on PC or getting an Xbox Series X. What I got was a look at cinematics (with some gameplay sprinkled in) for a bunch of games with the vast majority looking like PS4 games. We did get some gorgeous and shocking reveals though like Horizon Forbidden West, Hitman III, Resident Evil Village, and a remake of Demon’s Soul. The big problem is that the nicer looking games also won’t be releasing until 2021 or even 2022 if we’ve gotten a release date. That means that at launch, we’re not going to be getting anything revolutionary. Also, there’s no word on which games are PS5 exclusive, and we know that roughly 90% of games will be available on multiple platforms.

The big thing for me was the actual console reveal. Leading up to it, they showed off the controller again and touted “Haptic feedback” without explaining what kind of haptic feedback that would make it so special. However, at the end of the presentation, we got a look at the new console which features a black and white color scheme. The design of the console actually reminds me of some older Alienware desktops if I’m honest. It’s an interesting take for sure. We also got to see thought that they’re taking a page from Xbox’s playbook and will be releasing a purely digital version of the PlayStation 5. This is a very smart move as it will provide a cheaper (probably by about $50) and slightly smaller option for customers.

Sadly, the event hasn’t convinced me to get a PS5. Sony is running out of time to convince people, and the longer they wait to reveal key things, the more likely fans will be disappointed when they’re announced. I will say though, that if I did get a PS5, I would hands-down get Horizon Forbidden West. It was the prettiest looking game revealed and looks great. I’ve included the full list of games revealed below with some of my thoughts on each title as well as the release window if provided. Also, you can watch the event in full below around the 59:00 mark.

  • Grand Theft Auto V – 2021

    • Yay? GTA V gets ported to the next generation. I’m a little surprised, but also

  • Spider-Man Miles Morales – Holiday 2020

    • This looks to be the sequel to the very popular PS4 title Spider-Man. I’m not surprised that it’s coming out around the time the PS5 is set to launch. I’m assuming it’ll be a launch title and the only one that fans are going to care about.

  • Gran Turismo 7 – N/A

    • I do enjoy the Gran Turismo series, so this is cool. They have always looked great though, so that’s not surprising.

  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart – N/A

    • It looks fine. I’ve never played the Ratchet & Clank games, so I don’t really have an opinion.

  • Project Athia – N/A

    • This might be an exclusive for the PS5 (unclear), and it looks like it has potential. Unfortunately, they showed us so little, it’s hard to get excited.

  • Stray – 2021

    • In a world full of robots, it looks like you’ll control a stray cat for some reason. Cool?

  • Returnal – N/A

    • This is going to be an exclusive title. I personally felt like the graphics don’t look great. The premise could be interesting to some, but it’s not my thing. It’s an Edge of Tomorrow type deal where you die and then restart, but it sounds like some things change.

  • Sackboy: A Big Adventure – N/A

    • I’m a sucker for Little Big Planet, so of course I enjoyed seeing this one. It looks like fun.

  • Destruction AllStars – N/A

    • This game looks like a T-rated version of Twisted Metal. You go around and destroy each other in your lethal cars. It’s plenty more colorful though.

  • Kena: Bridge of Spirits – N/A

    • This was the first game that I thought really had promise when watching the presentation. If it’s exclusive, it could be a great tool for Sony to get buyers.

  • Goodbye Volcano High – 2021

    • This game just doesn’t look like my cup of tea. It looks like it’s more of an interactive story than a game.

  • Oddworld: Soulstorm – N/A

    • This actually had some impressive graphics to me and is sure to please fans of the franchise

  • Ghostwire: Tokyo – 2021

    • This game has looked really cool since I first heard about it. That being said, I don’t know that it looks very PS5. It looks more PS4. Still looks cool though.

  • Jett – Holiday 2020

    • I’m really not sure what this game is. You go around exploring planets I think.

  • Godfall - Holiday 2020

    • This looks pretty cool, but also very repetitive. I think it might be an exclusive though.

  • Solar Ash - 2021

    • This game has a very interesting art style. It actually looks like it has a lot of potential, but the graphics didn’t really scream PS5.

  • Hitman III – January 2021

    • This was probably the first game that looked like a next-gen title. The graphics look absolutely incredible.

  • Astro’s Playroom – N/A

    • This looks potentially fun, but also a little too weird for me.

  • Little Devil Inside – N/A

    • This game has another interesting art style, but I’m so confused as to what the game actually is. We see an adventurer and then we switch over to an old guy (I assume he’s a butler for some reason). Is it him daydreaming?

  • NBA 2K21 – Fall 2020

    • This looks great, but it’s a basketball game and they typically do. Also, it’ll be available on all platforms, so I don’t see the big deal.

  • Bugsnax – Holiday 2020

    • This game looks so weird. You go around eating creatures that are food turned into bugs. It’s a little disturbing in my opinion.

  • Demon’s Souls – N/A

    • This appears to be a remake (albeit a gorgeous remake) of the hit game. Fans are sure to feel the hype for this one.

  • Deathloop – N/A

    • This game actually looks like fun as you go around as an assassin but you’ve got other assassins taking you down. There’s a lot of time play involved.

  • Resident Evil 8: Village – 2021

    • This was a big hype moment for the show. I don’t know that anyone expected this small town horror-type game to be a Resident Evil title.

  • Pragmata – 2022

    • This game looked really good and made me think of Bioshock, so that’s good, right?

  • Horizon Forbidden West – N/A

    • This was the best looking game in my opinion. This was the game that made me go, “The PS5 does have better graphics!” Horizon Zero Dawn is why I wanted a PS4 (still didn’t get it though), and this one is the one reason so far for me to get a PS5. It was smart to have this be the last game shown.

Please join us on June 11 at 1pm PDT / 9pm BST / 10pm CEST to see what's in store for the next generation of games. FRANÇAIS - https://youtu.be/cSGmtcXOy8o D...
