Here’s What Stephen King Thinks About Idris Elba Joining THE DARK TOWER

Last week we learned that Idris Elba is in negotiations to take on the lead role of The Gunslinger, Roland Deschain, in The Dark Tower. I’d actually really love to see this casting happen because I think he’d be awesome!

There were a few people that didn’t like the idea of Elba playing the character because they were hoping for a white guy to take on the part. That obviously doesn’t seem like something that director Nikolaj Arcel and Sony Pictures are concerned with. The other actor they were looking at was Javier Bardem.

In the end, it doesn’t matter what race or color Roland is in the film. It certainly doesn’t matter to the story's author, Stephen King, who had this to say in a statement on Twitter recently:

“To me, the color of the gunslinger doesn't matter. What I care about is how fast he can draw...and that he takes care of the ka-tet.”

You couldn’t ask for a more perfect response. Hopefully, we get an officially casting announcement soon!
