HEROES OF MIGHT AND MAGIC III Is Getting A Board Game
Who here played the Heroes of Might and Magic Games? I love them, and 3 is by far my favorite one, so I am very excited to hear that they will be making a board game version of this game. Archon Studio has a licensing agreement with Ubisoft and is set to launch a Kickstarter to make this idea a reality in November 2022. While that is still pretty far away, we can see a few details about the game already.
There will be 30 miniatures to use of both heroes and creatures. The sample they have up of the medusa looks great, so I hope the rest can look just as good. It looks like maybe they will come unpainted which can lead to some really cool looking editions of the game as people paint their own copies. It will use hexagonal board pieces that get revealed as you explore the world map which is a mechanic I really enjoy as it keeps games fresh and interesting with different terrains every time you play. The artwork for the creature cards by Iana Vengerova looks incredible so far. It looks like there will be game cards for hero level ups and spells that are very faithful to the original game. We know that two of the three starting towns will be Castle and Inferno, the third has yet to be revealed but if they are working on Medusas then it seems like Dungeon is most likely. Jarosław Ewertowski, CEO of Archon Studio says:
“In Poland, this game was one of the most iconic games we played. Basically every kid in the late 90’s played the Heroes’ games, and we are crazy happy to turn our childhood love into a miniatures based board game. Working on this license is like being a teenager again, but this time, we are the authors, and tons of fans from all over the world are looking at us with great expectations regarding the quality.”
So far their goal is to have people be able to pledge and get all the stretch goals for under 99 USD, though for the quality we have seen so far I would be surprised if they were able to keep it that low. Either way, this is definitely a game to keep an eye out for next year. I’m hoping that the Necropolis can make its appearance in one of the stretch goals. Which townships would you want to see in expansions?
