Hideo Kojima Accidentally Fell Hard for KPOP DEMON HUNTERS and It Left Him an Emotional Wreck
If you think the mind behind Death Stranding only lives in bleak, rain soaked futures filled with ghostly nightmares, think again. Hideo Kojima just reminded the internet that he’s also someone who can get completely wrecked by a great animated movie.
The legendary creator of Death Stranding recently shared that he threw on Netflix’s animated sensation KPop Demon Hunters without much thought. What started as casual viewing quickly turned into a full emotional spiral.
“I casually started watching ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’ got completely hooked, and ended up crying my eyes out by the end. It was so, so good 🥺🫶”
Kojima has always been open about the media that moves him, and this one clearly hit him hard.
Kojima followed up with another post showing Huntr/x’s breakout track “Golden” playing, making it clear the soundtrack also grabbed him.
He even retweeted a post from Variety that named the song one of the best of 2025, which included this blurb: “Love it, hate it, will projectile-vomit if you hear it one more time in this or the next lifetime — whichever describes your reaction, you can’t deny ‘Golden,’ the most gigantic pop song in memory.”
KPop Demon Hunters has officially become Netflix’s most watched movie ever. The film is produced by Sony Pictures Animation, and the studio has already locked in a sequel scheduled to drop in 2029.
Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, KPop Demon Hunters follows superstar trio Huntr/x, who balance sold out stadium tours with secret lives as demon slayers protecting their fans from supernatural chaos. Their biggest challenge arrives in the form of the Saja Boys, a rival boy band that just happens to be demons in disguise.
Seeing Kojima openly gush over a flashy, heartfelt animated musical is pretty cool. I wouldn’t have expected that.
