Hideo Kojima Lists His Favorite Movies and Shows of 2025 and They Include KPOP DEMON HUNTERS and PLURIBUS

If there’s one thing fans love almost as much as Hideo Kojima’s games, it’s his movie and TV reviews. The Death Stranding creator recently took to social media to share his favorite movies and shows of the past year, and the list is packed with genre goodness, global cinema, and a few surprises that feel on-brand for his taste.

On the TV side, Kojima highlighted a strong lineup of streaming drama series. His favorites included Adolescence, a breakout Netflix hit, and the sci-fi series The Eternaut. He also called out Pluribus, the new sci-fi project from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, along with Netflix’s intense survival thriller Last Samurai Standing.

When it came to streaming movies, Kojima kept his picks focused but memorable. He singled out Netflix’s visually rich horror take Frankenstein, directed by Guillermo del Toro, and the wildly popular genre mashup KPop Demon Hunters, which clearly struck a chord.

Kojima also showed love to the theatrical experience, especially classic films brought back in stunning 4K restorations. His revival picks included Days of Heaven, The Fall, Le ballon rouge also known as The Red Balloon, and Les Amants du Pont-Neuf.

Kojima also shared a wide-ranging selection of foreign theatrical releases he loved, including Conclave, Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, Girl with the Needle, Love Lies Bleeding, Quand vient l’automne, Sinners, Heretic, Sirāt, The Shadow’s Edge, and Sentimental Value.

Japanese cinema also had a big presence on his list. Kojima’s favorite domestic theatrical releases were Teki Cometh, Dollhouse, Kokuho, and Suzuki=Bakudan.

More recently, Kojima shared his enthusiasm for Avatar: Fire and Ash, praising James Cameron’s latest trip back to Pandora. He wrote, "This film shows absolutely no compromise, right down to the finest details, in the construction of the Avatar 'universe,'" adding, "It was magnificent."

As always, Kojima’s annual favorites list reads like a must-watch guide for film and TV fans who are looking for new things to watch.
