Hideo Kojima Says He Wants to “Take It Easy” as He Gets Older but Will Never Stop Creating
Hideo Kojima recently turned 62, and while most people would be eyeing retirement, the legendary game creator made it clear he has no plans to step away from his craft. In a message to fans, Kojima thanked them for their birthday wishes and illustrations, saying:
“I intend to continue creating things for as long as I live.”
That makes sense coming from a developer who has been shaping the gaming world since the mid-’80s. From Metal Gear to Death Stranding, Kojima’s influence is undeniable, and his creative momentum hasn’t slowed.
But as time moves on, Kojima admits he’s learning to balance passion with health. He added:
“My stance on ‘creation’ is to ‘not overwork’ and to ‘take it easy,’ and I will continue to give it my all even after my 60’s.”
This new perspective stems in part from a serious illness he faced during the pandemic. Reflecting on that time, Kojima said it made him realize “that a lot of people wanted me to make something like Metal Gear,” which directly inspired his upcoming project Physint.
Kojima isn’t stopping with games, either. His long-held dream of making a movie is still on the table. According to him, that could finally happen after Physint releases, possibly “five or six years” from now.
So while he may want to take it easier in his 60s, don’t mistake that for slowing down. Whether it’s another game or a film, Kojima plans to keep creating for the rest of his life.
