Hideo Kojima Shares His Top 4 Favorite Movies of the Year

Legendary Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima likes to share his eclectic taste with fans, and now, he’s back with a fresh list, his top four movies of 2025 so far, and it’s full of unexpected picks that showcase just how diverse his cinematic appetite really is.

Kojima dropped his favorites on X, writing: "My top 4 films watched this year (from January to July), in the order I saw them." Accompanied by posters, his choices are Conclave, Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, The Girl with the Needle, and Sinners.

Sinners isn't exactly a surprise entry. Kojima previously praised the film, saying: "Director Ryan Coogler's new film 'Sinners.' One of my top two favorite movies I have seen this year."

He’s also been vocal about his admiration for The Girl with the Needle and Conclave, earlier calling them:
"These are the two best films I have seen in January and February. Both of them have an incredible sense of filmmaking."

Conclave is a compelling religious thriller that snagged an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, while The Girl with the Needle, a haunting Gothic horror centered on a wet nurse, earned a nomination for Best International Feature Film.

Then there's Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, a gritty Hong Kong action flick that clearly struck a chord with Kojima. He previously posted a deep dive about the film’s impact, which isn’t surprising given its killer setting.

Set in 1980s Hong Kong, the movie follows a young man on the run who takes refuge inside the infamous Kowloon Walled City. It's now the second-highest-grossing domestic film in Hong Kong's history.

If you’re looking for good movies to watch, Kojima’s picks are a solid starting point. There may be one or two on there that you haven’t seen. For me, I have to watch The Girl with the Needle and Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In.
