History Channel Revives ICE ROAD TRUCKERS Reality Series After 8 Years
After more than eight years, Ice Road Truckers is officially returning to The History Channel, and fans can look forward to a brand-new season of frozen roads, high stakes, and life-or-death missions.
Season 12 of the hit reality series premieres October 1 and will once again follow drivers risking it all to haul supplies across frozen lakes and icy highways in Northern Canada. Veteran truckers including Todd Dewey and Lisa Kelly are back behind the wheel, joined by a new crew of rookies hoping to prove themselves on some of the most dangerous roads in the world.
The series first launched in 2007, created by Thom Beers, founder of Original Productions and executive producer of Deadliest Catch. It ran for eleven seasons until 2017, building a loyal fanbase fascinated by the perilous world of extreme trucking.
Over the years, drivers faced off against notorious stretches like Yellowknife, the Tuktoyatuk Winter Road, Alaska’s Dalton Highway, and the brutal Round Lake routes.
Kelly became a breakout star when she joined the series in Season 3 and returned for Seasons 7 through 11. Dewey joined her later in the run, and together they became staples of the show’s legacy.
Other fan favorites included Alex Debogorski, the only driver to appear in all eleven seasons, who went on to write a memoir and host Tale Lights.
Hugh Rowland starred through the first eight seasons, while Darrell Ward became a key figure from Season 6 until his tragic passing in a plane crash in 2016. Season 11 also brought in drivers like Art Burke, Steph Custance, Reno Ward, and Mark Kohaykewych.
The return of Ice Road Truckers is a co-production between The History Channel and Canada’s Corus Entertainment, with Fremantle’s Original Productions and Eagle Vision handling production.
“The timing couldn’t be better to bring back a beloved series that once resonated with our viewers for over a decade,” said Eli Lehrer, EVP and Head of Programming for The History Channel.
“We’re pleased to have this new season of Ice Road Truckers be a co-production with our Canadian partners at Corus Entertainment as this season ventures into a new era of storytelling for the series that infuses fresh energy and new challenges while honoring its rich legacy.”
Fans can expect plenty of new obstacles, icy tension, and edge-of-your-seat hauls when the series returns. The road is unforgiving, and the stakes are higher than ever.
